Azterlan honen helburu nagusia hauxe da: adineko pertsonei atzerriko hizkuntza bat irakasteko ikuspegi edo planteamendu egokienak zein diren ikertzea, erdietsi nahi dituzten emaitzak lortzen laguntzeko, eta zer onura dituzten aztertzeko. Analisiak zorrotz jarraitzen dio berrikuspen sistematikoak eta metaanalisiak egiteko PRISMA metodologiari, eta belaunaldi zaharrenentzat atzerriko hizkuntzak ikasteko dauden ikuspegiak landu dituzten funtsezko ikerketa esperimentalak identifikatzea du xede. Guztira, aurkitutako bederatzi ikerlan hartu dira aintzat berrikuspen sistematiko honetan. Horien iturriak Web of Science eta Scopus atarietan eskuratu dira. Egindako aurkikuntzek aditzera ematen dute atzerriko hizkuntzak ikasteak adinekoen ongizatea eta kalitatez zahartzea bultza ditzakeela, ikaskuntzaren emaitzak edozein direla ere. Horrek esan nahi du atzerriko hizkuntzak ikasten dituzten hirugarren adineko pertsonentzat onura nagusia ez dela hizkuntzan lortzen duten gaitasun-maila, subjektiboki gogobeteta sentitzea baizik. Hori, hain zuzen, pizgarri egokia izan daiteke ikaskuntzan emaitza hobeak lortzeko, baldin eta ikasleei ikaskuntza-ingurune atsegina eta segurua eskaintzen bazaie, eta ikasteko ikuspegi egokiak erabiltzen badira; era horretan, dagoeneko badituzten ezagutzetan eta esperientziatik abiatuta aurrera egin dezakete, bai eta interesatzen zaizkien gaiei buruz eztabaidatuta ere. Beraz, atzerriko hizkuntzako irakasleek zeregin garrantzitsua dute adinekoen hezkuntza-prozesuan; izan ere, metodo eta material didaktikoek, pertsona nagusien hezkuntza-premietara egokitzen badira, eragin positiboa izan dezakete adinduen funtzio kognitiboak mantentzeko –eta, are hobetzeko–, bai eta haien jarduera mentalak hobera egiteko ere; horren ondorioz, osasuntsu zahartzen jarraitzen dute.
